"How does it work?"
It’s a fascinating story that Nestlé, one of the largest food suppliers worldwide, has been experimenting with pod-based coffee brewers since 1976. During a trip to Rome in 1975, a Nestlé engineer named Eric Favre observed a crowd of people at a coffee shop and discovered that the baristas were repeatedly pumping the piston of their espresso machine. Fascinated by this, he started working on Nestlé’s first single-serve coffee brewer, which is now widely used across the globe.
Eric’s idea was to create a single-serve coffee machine that would make the perfect cup of espresso every time. He experimented with various materials and finally decided to use aluminum to preserve the coffee grounds in a sealed container. The capsule is then punctured by a small needle, and pressurized hot water is added to brew a delicious cup of espresso. This invention revolutionized the coffee industry and paved the way for many other coffee pod makers to follow suit.
Today, pod-based coffee brewers have become increasingly popular due to their convenience and ease of use. They are found in homes, offices, and even coffee shops and restaurants worldwide. Nestlé continues to innovate and improve its pod-based coffee brewers to provide coffee lovers with a perfect cup of coffee every time.
I think you are a coffee lover, so I'll recommend this amazing product.
Nespresso’s journey to create their first machine took ten years, leading to the establishment of their sub-branch, Nespresso, in 1986. While their patent for aluminum canister pods expired in 2012, it opened up an opportunity for other brands to make pods compatible with Nespresso machines, revolutionizing at-home coffee brewing. Today, pod-based brewers have become as important of an amenity in hotels and AirBnBs as running water and WiFi.
In 2014, Nespresso introduced the Vertuo line, which catered to American coffee preferences by offering larger-sized drinks. The Vertuo line included new technology, such as redesigned dome-shaped pods in three different sizes, one for single espressos, medium for double and lungo espressos, and large for coffee drinks. According to coffee YouTube creator James Hoffmann, there is not much difference between the coffees in the pods themselves, with the smallest pod having the least amount of coffee and the largest pod having the most.
However, Nespresso’s use of barcodes on the outer rim of their pods and their proprietary “centrifusion” technique may seem like a ploy to lock consumers into using only Nespresso-made pods. Despite this, there are ways to get around repurchasing new pods, such as reusing them by washing out spent pods and resealing them with aluminum stickers.
Overall, Nespresso’s innovation in technology has transformed the way we brew coffee at home and has given coffee lovers more options to choose from.
